备注:Abstract: Bifurcation theory is a great methodology for understanding the solution set of a PDE, and for revealing the critical roles played by physical and biological parameters, The lectures intend to provide a gentle introduction to the phenomenon of bifurcation from “constant solutions”. We start with Crandall-Rabinowitz local bifurcation theorem with a proof; we then discuss the turning of the bifurcation branch and the principle of exchange of stability; at the end we introduce a relatively new global bifurcation theory for Fredholm operators (due to Fitzpatrick, Pejsachowicz and Rabier, and made user-friendly by Shi and myself), which improves the celebrated Rabinowitz’s global theorem. The abstract theory will be mixed with PDE examples.
